FAQs

Why is participation in this workshop mandatory?

MISSION UNITED has recently updated the Employment Services program. There are new processes, and a significant amount of important information that needs to be exchanged. Face-to-face is the most effective way to do so, and the group setting allows for efficiency. It is also a fun and helpful experience.

Are there eligibility or ID requirements?

Broward County veterans with any discharge status except DISHONORABLE may participate. Proof of eligible veteran status is required prior to revceiving services, so it helps to get it out of the way early. DD Form 214 (DD214) is preferred, but if you don't have access to yours, we can temprarily use:

  • VA Card, or
  • Florida Drivers License with Veteran "V" Designation.

If you do not have any proof of veteran status, you may still register and attend the event, just let the workshop facilitator know when you register.

What are my parking options for the workshop?

The United Way of Broward County has a parking lot, as well as overflow parking spots in the neighborhood.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

The United Way of Broward County main phone line: (954)462-4850. Ask for the MISSION UNITED Employment Specialist.

You may also use the contact form here: http://www.unitedwaybroward.org/contact-us

Am I required to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No ticket required, but feel free to bring it if you like. We will have a list.

How should I dress?

Business casual at a minimum, if possible. It is not uncommon for our employer partners to be in the building. We'd rather not miss an opportunity for an introduction becasue you are not dressed for success. However, if you do not have business attire, or the means with which to acquire it, do not let that stop you from attending.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the workshop?

Make a list of the jobs you have applied for in the last 90 days, including employer name, position/title, and approximate date of application. It is also helpful if you know whether or not the application is open or closed. In addition, make a list of job postings, employers, and industries you are interested in pursuing.

Finally, if you have the opportunity, Google or do some brief research on "S.M.A.R.T." goals, and try to set some short-term and long-term "S.M.A.R.T." goals for yourself.

What should I bring with me?

Copies of your resume, or a way to access it (thumb drive, email yourself, etc.), a notebook and pen, proof of veteran status if you have it, any employment opportunities you want to pursue, your questions, and a positive attitude.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Space is limited to 15 - 20 veterans per session. Please be respectful of your peers' time. If you need to reschedule, please be courteous and provide a minimum of 24 - 48 hours notice so that someone else has an opporunity to participate. It is better for you to reschedule if you are going to be more than 10 minutes late because you will miss important information.

Thank you!
